Breakfast followed by talk and questions.
You are invited to the next meeting of the Herefordshire Conservative Business Forum on Friday the 28th of February, 7.15am for 7.30 start, finish by 9am at The Harewood End Inn on the A49 at Harewood End, HR2 8JT, Guest Speaker Bill Quan, recently appointed Herefordshire NFU County Chairman.
Bill is a first generation tenant farmer educated at Harper Adams with his wife Gina. They gained their tenancies in 2001 mainly at Barton Hill on the Kentchurch Estate owned by the Scudamore family for 1000 years. They
now farm at Howton Farm in Pontrilas and produce cereals, oil seeds, potatoes and rear livestock. The cereals are mainly grown for seed and Avara Feed Mill at Tram Inn, the potatoes are contracted to McCain Foods
and IPL for Asda, lambs go to Kepak with the Tesco Producer group and Limousin and Hereford cattle largely go for breeding.
The family are heavily involved in the Natural England Higher Level Stewardship Scheme by which they deliver 'Production with Protection', commercial farming along with habitat creation and restoration with many
buffer zones, wild bird seed plots and flower meadows. Every year they welcome around 20 school visits and demonstrate farming, food production and conservation under the Educational Access Scheme.
Bill was a former Chairman of the Hereford Cattle Breeders Association, 7Y Services Ltd and the Herefordshire Agricultural Club. He is keen to take a positive message from farming into the wider world, especially after Brexit. As he states, peer to peer learning to produce climate friendly food to the UK customer base must be our objective and become the envy of the world. In his spare time Bill volunteers for the Hereford Corn Exchange, a small educational charity and the Royal Three Counties Show & Agricultural Society at Malvern.
Herefordshire CBF welcomes everyone in business or interested in business and of any political persuasion or of none.
