Nigel was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Mid Worcestershire in May 2015. He lives in the constituency with his wife and children, who attend local schools.
Born and raised in Lincolnshire, he attended the Robert Pattinson Comprehensive School in North Hykeham before going on to study politics and economics at Oxford University. He moved to London to work for Arthur Andersen as a management consultant and then went to the Anderson School at the University of California, Los Angeles to study for a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA). He married his American wife, Melissa, in 1999 and they moved back to the UK in 2006 following the birth of their son. Nigel worked for Deloitte before joining Google as Industry Head of Travel in 2011.
In the 2010 General Election he contested the Luton South seat and achieved a 4.6% swing from Labour to the Conservatives. He served as a Councillor on St Albans District Council between 2011 and 2014, representing the Wheathampstead Ward.
He was selected as the Conservative Party parliamentary candidate for Mid Worcestershire in November 2013 in an Open Primary (a public meeting at which both Conservative and non-Conservative supporters attended and voted), and won the seat with a majority of 20,532 in the May 2015 General Election.
Nigel was re-elected in June 2017, increasing his majority to 23,326. Following this election, he was appointed as the Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to Ministers in the Department for Digital, Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) and in January 2018 he became PPS to Matt Hancock, the Secretary of State. He has a particular interest in tourism and technology, and sat on the Culture, Media an Sport Select Committee between 2015 and 2017.
