Press Release:

“Christian Dangerfield, Financial and Commercial Director of the Green Dragon Hotel Group was guest speaker at the December meeting of the Herefordshire Conservative Business Forum, held at The Harewood End Inn.

He told how the Green Dragon Hotel had links to the building of the majestic Hereford Cathedral, since 11th Century stonemasons who built the cathedral stayed at The White Lion, the site of today’s Green Dragon.

But as well as an interesting past, he said, the hotel was also poised for a exciting future as a catalyst bringing tourism and investment into Hereford.

Extensive refurbishment of the 83 bedroomed hotel, including the magnificent ballroom, restaurant and lounges, would commence in January.

He said there was a view among some that Hereford was a city that lacked self-confidence and he quoted a Guardian article saying its heyday was yet to come.

Mr Dangerfield spoke of Hereford's potential and the progress already made with the Old Market development, the enterprise zone, plans for Hereford University and the work of local food producers and restaurants to promote local and seasonal produce - which the Green Dragon was proud to showcase.

He said: "There is a desire to recapture business and social life in Hereford as well to achieve a tourist revival.  The Mappa Mundi, within Hereford Cathedral, is an internationally renowned asset to the County.

"We have the product, we have the people: we need to brand Hereford together."

Anthea McIntyre, Conservative MEP for the West Midlands and forum chairman, said it was exciting to know that the Green Dragon, as a prime central Hereford venue, was back with such momentum.”
